“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” — Maya Angelou
George Thomas discovered his passion for supporting others during his time in nursing school, where he found fulfillment in connecting with patients who were isolated and lonely. This experience inspired him to pursue a degree in psychology. While studying, he worked at an after-school program and found that children navigating family and relationship challenges naturally connected with him — helping him recognize his ability to make a positive impact.
As a licensed therapist, George strives to create a supportive and compassionate environment where clients feel genuinely understood, respected, and accepted. His approach is person-centered, rooted in an appreciation for each client’s unique experiences and strengths, and complemented by practical strategies to foster healing and personal growth.
George works with adolescents, teens, adults, families, and couples on a range of concerns, including trauma, relationship challenges, emotional regulation, and identity-related issues. Known for his calm and approachable presence, George builds collaborative and trusting relationships where clients feel safe to express themselves openly.
He integrates evidence-based techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to support clients’ goals. In addition, he is trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS), which helps clients explore different parts of themselves with curiosity and compassion — promoting trauma recovery and self-awareness.
When working with children and adolescents, George often incorporates play therapy techniques, offering a developmentally appropriate and safe way for young clients to process complex emotions. His flexible approach allows him to tailor sessions to meet each client’s needs, whether through structured goal-setting, emotional exploration, or creative, expressive activities. Clients frequently describe him as relatable, adaptable, creative, and authentic, and he gently challenges unhelpful patterns within a framework of respect and trust.
Understanding the profound impact of trauma, George uses a trauma-informed approach that emphasizes emotional safety, empowerment, and resilience. He also works with individuals and families navigating intergenerational trauma, relational wounds, and cultural disconnection, integrating relational, spiritual, and practical considerations when appropriate.
With a background that includes spirituality, George is comfortable incorporating faith or spiritual values into therapy when aligned with a client’s goals and beliefs. He values cultural humility and inclusivity and has experience working with clients from diverse racial, ethnic, spiritual, gender, and socioeconomic backgrounds — always prioritizing cultural sensitivity and respect as essential elements of care.
Outside of work, George enjoys cooking, playing sports (especially basketball), watching TV, attending church, and exploring local restaurants.
Whether clients seek support for trauma recovery, help with a challenging adolescent, tools to manage anxiety, or ways to strengthen relationships, George provides compassionate, collaborative care to help uncover inner strengths and develop skills for a more peaceful, fulfilling life.
